Help Us Prevent Fires This Season

Is Your Property Fire Safe?

As our summer season get into full swing it’s generally a time of fun and celebration, however the hot weather means it’s also a time of increased bushfire risk. Unfortunately bush fires don’t just happen in rural environments.

The Town would like to remind all property owners and occupiers of their obligations. On or before 30 November 2018, or within 14 days of becoming an owner or occupier after that date, all property owners and occupiers are required to comply with the requirements of the Bush Fires Act 1954 until 31 March 2019.

On vacant blocks, all grass and inflammable matter must be cleared or slashed to a height not exceeding 5cm. All slashings and other inflammable material must be removed.

On residential blocks you are required to remove by clearing or slashing all inflammable material, ie: long dry grass and overgrown plants and trees not under cultivation. You are also encouraged to clear your gutters and rake up any dry leaves.

Verge maintenance, the Town principally relies on residents for the improvement and maintenance on nature strips (verges). The Town encourages nature strips (verges) to be maintained by the adjacent owner/occupier in support of the Bush Fires Act 1954.

Please note that burning of garden refuse is strictly prohibited in the Town of Mosman Park with penalties applying to offenders.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services fire ready resources

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) have published a new website, Fire Chat to include a suite of new bushfire planning and preparation tools to help you protect your property and stay safe in a bushfire emergency.
