Mosman Park Explores Partnership with Men’s Shed for Bigger and Better Community Fair 2020

To keep the ever-popular Mosman Park Community Fair fresh and inviting, and as a way to build capacity in its community groups, the Town of Mosman Park is exploring a new partnership with the local Men’s Shed to deliver an expanded version of the Fair in November 2020.

The Town has sharpened its focus on delivering on key objectives in community development, including promoting social interaction and connectedness, empowering local residents to create opportunities, supporting the viability of community and sporting groups and the promotion and support of local business and it is hoped that proposals for the revamped event – along with other new measures – will achieve just that.

“Rather than hosting the usual Community Fair in March at Mann Oval, we are considering holding a bigger and better event at Tom Perrott Reserve in November 2020 that will be the Mosman Craft Market and Community Fair for all ages,” Mayor Pollock advised.  He further said that the Town would allocate some of the money it will save by combining the events to drive the greatest value for money and create opportunities in different parts of the Town.

“Instead of all of our eggs in one basket”, he said “we are hoping to do more in different areas of the Town, including the possibility of expanding our Council grants system to support groups and initiatives that are led by the community.”

As part of the Let’s Revitalise Mosman Park Town Centre initiative, the Town will also discuss partnering with traders in the Glyde Street precinct and other commercial zones on various ideas to increase vibrancy in these areas, Mayor Pollock advised.

He explained that this was all about empowering residents to develop their own ideas and run their own events and projects, to drive innovation.  By sharing this funding across a range of initiatives, we are looking at deriving the greatest possible value, rather than investing all of it in one event.
