Is voting compulsory?

Voting

Voting in local government elections in Western Australia is not compulsory.

Eligible voters in a district ward are entitled to one vote in an ordinary local government election for Elected Member-candidates; and one vote for a Mayor-candidate in a Mayoral election.

Multiple ownership/occupation

Where more than two eligible voters own or occupy a property, the owners or occupiers may nominate two of the eligible voters among them to be added to the Owner Occupier Roll.

This provision also applies to property owned or occupied by a body corporate.

Claims can be made on an Enrolment Eligibility Claim Form
