Herbicide use

Over the last few years, we have been reducing herbicide use in the Town.

We’ve been working hard to modify treatment regimes, explore alternative products and undertake manual weed removal where practically reasonable.

We acknowledge and understand the attention that has been drawn to the environmental and human health effects of herbicides – specifically, Glyphosate (which is the active ingredient in products such as Roundup). At this time, the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) deems the product suitable for application in public places, if followed as per the instructions and in accordance with the application guidelines.

The Town will be reviewing its Herbicide Policy shortly – more updates on this will follow. We continue to explore alternative methods to manage weeds in the Town.
