Mosman Beach

Mosman Beach is the only beach in the Perth metropolitan area to have an artificial surf reef catered to surfers.

The beach is a 600 metre stretch of coast bordered by South Cottesloe Beach in the north and Fremantle’s Leighton Beach in the south.

It is also a designated dog exercise area, making it a popular location for locals and tourists.

The Town has commenced rehabilitating the dunes at Mosman Beach. This has involved weed control to provide areas for planting and revegetation with native coastal tree and shrub species. Revegetation is currently focussed on 2,500 metres squared of the southern section of Mosman Beach.

This area was planted in early winter 2012 with assistance from the community to plant over 7000 coastal species and since then, the Town has continued to restore Mosman Beach through ongoing maintenance and revegetation with help from the Community.

The project has many benefits including increasing ecological value, reducing erosion and sand accretion, minimising weed invasions, enhancing biodiversity, providing a more pleasing natural environment and educating local school groups and the community.

This project is funded through the Coastwest initiative, a partnership between the West Australian Planning Commission and the Australian Government’s Caring For Our Country.
