Why was this project necessary?

Changing river conditions have eroded the beach and damaged the river wall making access and enjoyment of the river difficult. Temporary structural repairs are being undertaken to the river wall, however a long-term solution is needed for the area. These historical photos show the foreshore as it used to look.

Where exactly is the Mosman Bay foreshore?

This Project focused on the 500m-long stretch of parkland and river between the Johnston Street boat ramp and Mosmans restaurant in Mosman Park.

Continued erosion due to wave action has damaged the river wall and eroded the beach. Emergency structural repairs to the river wall have commenced, however a long-term plan is needed to bring back the beach, and protect and improve the area.

Who prepared the Draft Mosman Bay Foreshore Management Plan?

The Council formed a Community Reference Group (CRG) made up of local residents, technical and executive staff from the Council and professional project consultants. The CRG considered the survey and workshop responses and made its recommendations to the Town's technical advisors and Swan River Trust, who prepared options for the foreshore. The CRG evaluated those options and made its recommendations in the form of a draft Foreshore Management Plan.  For further information on the community consultation process click here.

Who approved the Plan?

The Council has now approved the Community Reference Group’s Plan for implementation.

Can I read the Plan?

Yes. You can download the Plan here.

Who is paying for this process and the Plan’s implementation?

The Town of Mosman Park and the Swan River Trust are jointly funding the Project.

Can I make any further comments?

You are welcome to send through any queries, and / or comments about the project to thebay@mosmanpark.wa.gov.au or call the Town's administration office on 9384 1633.

Why isn't the boat ramp included in the draft Plan?

A separate project to upgrade the public boat ramp is currently underway. The boat ramp upgrade will be run in parallel with the Mosman Bay Sandcastles Project and where relevant the outcomes of the boat ramp upgrade will be integrated with the vision for the area.

Wasn’t a groyne proposed for the area?

The original solution proposed to the beach erosion problems was a groyne. However this solution met with community concern so the Council undertook the development of the Mosman Bay Foreshore Management Plan through consultation with the community.

How can I keep up to date with the Project?
