ENROL TO VOTE

To participate in the federal election, you must be enrolled to vote. Enrolment is a vital part of democracy, allowing you to have your say on the future of the country.

HOW TO ENROL

Enrolling to vote is quick and easy. You can complete your enrolment online via the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) website. If you prefer a paper form, you can:

ENROLMENT DEADLINES

Enrolment closes at 8pm local time on Monday 7 April 2025. Make sure to enrol or update your details before the deadline to avoid missing out on voting.

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

If you require assistance or have specific circumstances, such as being a silent elector, a traveller, or having no fixed address, the AEC provides special category enrolment options. Visit the AEC website here to find out more.

VOTING WHILE OVERSEAS

VOTING OPTIONS

There are multiple ways to vote in the Federal Election:

EARLY VOTING

Early voting will be available from Tuesday 22 April 2025 at select locations (locations to be announced by the AEC Monday April 21 2025 – be sure to check back on our website for the list of locations).

You may vote early if on election day you:

  • Are outside your enrolled electorate.
  • Are more than 8km from a polling place.
  • Are travelling.
  • Cannot leave work.
  • Are seriously ill, infirm, or due to give birth (or caring for someone who is).
  • Have a disability (or care for someone who does).
  • Are a hospital patient who cannot vote in hospital.
  • Have religious beliefs preventing attendance at a polling place.
  • Are in prison serving a sentence of less than three years.
  • Are a silent elector or have a reasonable fear for your safety.

POSTING VOTING

If you cannot vote in person, you may be eligible to apply for a postal vote.

  • Postal vote applications are open now.
  • The Australian Electoral Commission advises voters to apply directly through the AEC website to avoid delays and protect privacy.
  • Ballot papers will be mailed after the Declaration of Nominations on Friday 11 April 2025.

If you are a registered general postal voter, you will automatically receive a postal voting pack in the mail. Ensure your postal address is updated before 8pm local time on Monday 7 April 2025.

VOTING ON ELECTION DAY

Election day is Saturday 3 May 2025.

You can vote at any polling place in your state or territory. Locations will be made available closer to election day via the AEC’s Where to Vote tool. Polling places are typically located in schools, churches, community halls, or public buildings.

If you are interstate on election day and have not voted early, you can cast your vote at a designated interstate voting centre. Locations will be released closer to election day.
