$1 million boost for safer streets and school journeys in Mosman Park

Mosman Park is set for safer streets and school journeys, with $1 million in State Government funding to deliver traffic-calming improvements around local primary schools.

The Town of Mosman Park has secured $1 million through the Main Roads WA Low Cost Urban Road Safety Program to help make local streets safer for everyone, particularly children travelling to and from school.

The funding will support a series of road safety improvements at priority locations identified through the Town’s Urban Road Safety Plan, including Victoria Street, Monument Street near Mosman Park Primary School and Manning Street.

Proposed improvements include pedestrian crossings, raised safety platforms, gateway treatments and mini roundabouts, designed to encourage safer driving behaviours and improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

Putting safer school journeys first

The funding follows two rounds of community consultation on the Town’s Urban Road Safety Plan, which helped identify local road safety concerns and priorities.

Community feedback, traffic surveys, specialist traffic assessments and crash history were considered alongside previous studies to help determine where improvements could make the greatest difference.

Safety around Mosman Park Primary School was a key concern, with the school’s 2025 traffic safety report identifying 42 near-misses involving scooters and bikes.

The Town has been working with the community and specialist traffic consultants to identify practical measures that can help reduce risks and make it easier for people to walk, ride and travel safely around the neighbourhood.

What happens next?

The Town will progress the detailed design and planning for the funded improvements, with works expected to begin in early 2027.

All works are scheduled to be completed by June 2027, in line with the grant funding requirements.
