August 2021 OCM wrap-up

Here are the key decisions at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 24 August 2021:

Mos Lane DA

The Town will now present its recommendation to the WA Planning Commission, following Council’s rejection of Mos Lane’s updated development application for the Wellington Street Neighbourhood Centre. The Town is not the determining body for this application, so the WAPC will consider the Town’s recommendation along with SDAU’s consultation feedback before coming to a final decision on the development application.

Rate Exemption Policy

Council’s endorsement of the Rate Exemption Policy will grant the Town power to routinely review eligibility criteria for non-rateable properties in Mosman Park. What does this mean? By regularly making sure these properties are still eligible for non-rateable status (as per the Local Government Act5 1995), we can either identify any lost revenue or prevent it from happening.

Caretaker Policy

In the lead up to the October Local Government Elections, Council has approved the introduction of a new Caretaker Policy. This policy ensures there are protocols in place to avoid actual and perceived advantage or disadvantage to a local government election candidate. As part of the new policy, Council will not be able to make any major decisions, as determined by the CEO. The Town’s caretaker period commences 9 September until 6pm 16 October.

Mosman Park Golf Club self-supporting loan

Council has given the green light for a $200,000 loan (with a loan term of six years) to the Mosman Park Golf Club. The funds will go towards revitalising clubrooms, renovating restrooms and project work to improve irrigation water quality.

Australia Day Awards Policy

Council moved to defer the decision to update the Town’s Australia Day Awards Policy, which will see a combined Community Citizen of the Year Award with the Town of Cottesloe and Shire of Peppermint Grove.

Western Knights lease renewed

Western Knights Soccer Club’s lease at Nash Field has been renewed to October 2022, after Council approved the 12 month option, subject to the Minister for Lands’ consent.
