The Town of Mosman Park will be working closely with Memorial Hall’s new tenants Perth International Jazz Festival (PIJF) in the hope of bringing outdoor movies back to Mosman Park.
Luna Palace Cinemas this week announced they will not be operating Camelot Outdoor Cinema in Mosman Park for the 2023/24 season.
Luna’s decision is attributed to complications associated with noise complaints made by nearby residents late last year. The State Government is responsible for enforcing the Environmental Protection (Noise) Regulations 1997, (Noise Regulations).
In response to the complaints, the Town has been working with Luna over the course of the year to ensure its outdoor cinema operates within noise regulations.
This includes offering financial support to help fund noise-reducing measures, as well as:
- commencing a regulatory review to explore medium to longer term options to manage the acoustics of this venue
- proactively seeking advice from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER)to determine how the outdoor cinema can operate within noise regulations.
The Town understands that PIJF is in discussions with other cinema service providers to find a temporary solution, with the aim of maintaining delivery of the seasonal outdoor cinema to Mosman Park.
Mayor Paul Shaw acknowledges Luna Cinemas for their significant contribution to the Mosman Park community over the past 22 years.
“The Town is devastated that a handful of complaints have compelled Luna to pull its 2023/24 outdoor cinema season out of Mosman Park.”
“The great news is that we’re working closely with our new tenants – Perth International Jazz Festival – who understand how important and iconic outdoor cinema is to the local arts scene and our community.”
“Together, we will do all we can to revive the magic of outdoor movies in Mosman Park this summer.”
