Council unveils a Budget that invests back into the community

Council has adopted its 2023-24 Budget, reflecting a commitment to sustainable financial management and the preservation of assets and infrastructure.

This ‘hold-steady’ Budget strategically focuses on getting the basics right while ensuring the delivery of valuable services to our residents.

The Budget sets out the Town’s key priorities for the next 12 months, as well as a financial plan to absorb the increasing costs of labor and materials while containing core operational expenses.

Mayor Paul Shaw said the Budget strikes the right balance between addressing the Town’s financial challenges and nurturing the growth of the Mosman Park community.

“With a solid financial health score, which surpasses that of other councils, we find ourselves in a confident position to navigate the challenges ahead,” says Mayor Shaw.

“The 2023-24 Budget marks a significant milestone for Mosman Park Council as it sets the stage for sustainable financial management and community development as we we work together with our community to preserve our heritage and plan for the future.”

Key highlights of the 2023-24 Budget include:

  1. Increasing the Underground Power Reserve to $1.3 million: In a bid to enhance the resilience and reliability of our power infrastructure, this investment ensures a more robust and secure power supply for our community.
  2. Introducing FOGO to Mosman Park: As part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, we are proud to introduce the Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) initiative. This program encourages waste reduction and composting, contributing to a greener and more environmentally conscious Mosman Park. FOGO will begin rolling out to single-unit dwellings in August 2023, and then to apartments and multi-unit dwellings in early 2024.
  3. Renewing Public Open Spaces and Infrastructure: The 2023-24 Budget allocates $3.6 million to rejuvenate our public open spaces, maintain public buildings, footpaths, roads, and other vital transport infrastructure. This investment ensures that our community continues to enjoy well-maintained and accessible facilities.
  4. Investing in Urban Planning and Development for the future of Mosman Park. Key projects include a draft Local Planning Strategy and a Precinct Structure Plan to revitalise the Mosman Park Town Centre.
  5. Expanding Community Events: Much-loved events in Mosman Park will be back better than ever in the coming year. These events provide opportunities for residents to come together, foster social connections, and celebrate the vibrant spirit of Mosman Park.
