Residents’ concerns will be heard and alternative design concepts will be presented following the Town of Mosman Park’s decision this week to put community first and halt the Davis Oval lighting replacement project.

The replacement of three deteriorating light poles were scheduled to begin on 15 February to address serious safety issues with existing Town infrastructure.

The four new light poles will be on two nights a week and under current booking arrangements will automatically switch off by 8:30pm.

Mayor Brett Pollock said the lighting replacement project must put the community’s safety front of mind, but acknowledges how important concerned residents have their say on how the new lighting will impact them.

“We’ve been listening to the feedback from our community and are now exploring alternative concepts while the works are on hold. We will then engage with residents and present them the concepts. This is what our community expects and deserves,” said Mayor Pollock.

“Community matters to us. Our aim is to work together to come up with a plan that improves the quality of life and recreation among residents and the wider community.”

The project was approved by Council at the September 2020 Ordinary Council Meeting and will be partially paid for with a Federal Government COVID relief grant, which unlocks funding to improve community infrastructure.

The Town is legally required to comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Local Government Act 1995 in order to provide a safe environment for everyone.

Davis Oval is a multi-purpose park that is commonly used for exercise, sport, dog walking and general recreation by people of all ages.
