Fish in Swan River

Authorities are currently investigating a suspected mass fish kill in the lower Swan River, with sightings reported from Dalkeith through to North Fremantle, including our very own Mosman Park foreshore.

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) is leading investigations and has collected fish and water samples for testing. Early advice suggests recent heavy rainfall and freshwater flows into the river may have affected oxygen levels, which can place stress on marine life such as scaly mackerel, crabs and starfish.

To help protect the health and wellbeing of our community, we ask that you:

  • Avoid swimming in areas of the Mosman Park foreshore where dead fish are present
  • Keep pets away from the water and shoreline
  • Do not collect dead or dying fish for bait, food or pet consumption
  • Stay clear of affected areas while investigations continue

If you see dead or dying fish along the Mosman Park foreshore, please report it to FishWatch on 1800 815 507.

The Town is working closely with DBCA and will continue to share updates with our community as more information becomes available.
