Every July, people across the globe join Plastic Free July – a movement encouraging us all to reduce our reliance on single-use plastics. Here in Mosman Park, we’re excited to support this initiative and invite our community to take simple, achievable steps toward a cleaner, healthier environment.
Why Plastic Free July matters
Plastic pollution harms our wildlife, clogs waterways, and fills our landfills. Single-use plastics – such as plastic bags, straws, takeaway containers, and packaging – often have a very short life but linger in the environment for decades. By making mindful choices this July, Mosman Park residents can help reduce plastic waste, protect our local natural areas, and inspire others to follow suit.
Simple ways to get involved, this July and beyond!
You don’t need to overhaul your life to make a positive impact. Here are some easy tips to help you reduce plastic use this month:
- Skip the straw: Say no to plastic straws or bring your own reusable version.
- Choose loose produce: Opt for unpackaged fruits and veggies instead of those wrapped in plastic.
- Switch to reusable food wraps: Replace cling wrap with beeswax wraps or reusable containers.
- Reusable coffee cups: Carry a reusable coffee cup to avoid disposable cups and lids.
- Refill and reuse: Use refill stations for water bottles and household products where available.
- Support local efforts: Join community clean-ups or sustainability events hosted in Mosman Park.
- Plastic-free bathroom: Switch to bar soap, bamboo toothbrushes, and reusable cotton pads.
The Town of Mosman Park is committed to reducing plastic waste across the community. We’ve phased out single-use plastics at our events and continue to work with local groups, businesses, and residents to promote sustainable habits.
Plastic Free July is about progress, not perfection. Every small step helps protect our beautiful local environment – from our parks and bushlands to our waterways and beaches. Join us this July in making thoughtful choices to reduce plastic waste. Your actions matter – not just now, but for generations to come.
