A man has been caught in the act and prosecuted by the Town of Mosman Park for illegal dumping – the first enforcement outcome since CCTV was deployed to known rubbish hotspots this year.

CCTV surveillance, combined with a sequence of photographic evidence, proved the man had dumped furniture on the corner of Stirling Highway and St Leonard’s Street.
He does not live in Mosman Park and used an unregistered vehicle to transport and dump the items.

Mayor Paul Shaw said the fine should serve as a clear reminder that the Town takes illegal dumping seriously, and that offenders will face the full force of the law.

“Illegal dumping costs our ratepayers tens of thousands of dollars every year, and it’s an eyesore that poses real environmental risks to our community,” Mayor Shaw said.

“This infringement shows the Town won’t hesitate to take swift, serious action to stamp out illegal dumping in Mosman Park.”

Over the past few months, the Town has run a community education and awareness campaign on the financial and environmental cost of illegal dumping.

Combined with the new mobile CCTV units – which have proven a strong deterrent – this has helped drive a drop in dumping incidents this year.

The Town has also engaged with Coles Mosman Park to tackle abandoned shopping trolleys. Residents can report stray trolleys in their area via the Coles app or by calling 1800 876 553. Find out more here
