Mosman Park, meet your 2022 Community Citizens of the Year

Our local residents are making an extraordinary impact in the Mosman Park community.

Each year on Australia Day, the Community Citizen of the Year Awards give the Town of Mosman Park, as well as other local governments around the state, the opportunity to acknowledge active citizenship and the outstanding contribution of local residents.

The awards were presented at this year’s joint council Australia Day event at Manners Hill, together with the Shire of Peppermint Grove and Town of Cottesloe.

This year’s Community Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Senior Citizen of the Year foster and champion community spirit in Mosman Park through their meaningful work and dedication to their communities.

2022 Citizen of the Year – Kahlie Lockyer

  • Kahlie has selfelessly dedicated her time to weave cultural inclusivity into the school curriculum and raise awareness of Aboriginal culture among the Mosman Park community.
  • Kahlie has been a driving force behind Mosman Park Primary School’s Reconciliation Action Plan. Her dedication in playing an active and influential role in the reconciliation process by educating the staff, students and parents of the school is testament to her dedication to Mosman Park’s local school community.
  • As an active member of the Reconciliation Action Plan Working Party, Kahlie represented this party when the school became a finalist in the 2021 National Narragunnawali Awards for Reconciliation Actions Plans in Schools. This recognition is a significant achievement for Mosman Park Primary School.
  • Kahlie is also on Mosman Park Primary School NAIDOC Committee and has contributed her artistic talents to design t-shirts and bandanas for pupils, working with teachers to explain significance of these designs, designed and supported students in creating a six Noongar Season painting that is used for teaching.

  • As a dedicated member of the managing committee of the Nippers Program, Bella spends every Sunday from October to March, teaching our young community member confidence around water, and in particular, the ocean.
