One step closer to improving road safety around local primary schools

In a significant stride towards ensuring the safety of students and enhancing community infrastructure, the Town will seek approval from Council at the August Ordinary Council Meeting (OCM) to enter into an agreement with the Department of Education.

The outcome of the ‘Heads of Agreement’ will be the construction of a carpark in the Solomon Street Road reserve area between Lochee Street and Victoria Street. This follows the recent pledge of $2.4 million by the State Government to fund the new carpark.

The project encompasses a multi-faceted approach to address ongoing traffic safety concerns at the Mosman Park Primary School and Mosman Park School for Deaf Children.

The proposed carpark, subject to approval at the upcoming OCM, is poised to bring about a transformative change in the area:

Safety for students: The new carpark is designed to provide a dedicated and secure drop-off and pick-up area for students attending both Mosman Park Primary School and the Mosman Park School for Deaf Children. The safety and well-being of students and our community remain our paramount concern.

Mitigating traffic congestion: The carpark is anticipated to significantly alleviate traffic congestion during peak school hours, fostering a smoother flow of traffic for parents, students, and residents.

Community accessibility: Beyond school hours, the carpark will cater to the needs of the wider community. Additional parking spaces will be made available for various community groups and users of Mann Oval, Davis Oval, and Nash Field, enhancing accessibility to these facilities.

As part of the the agreement, the kindergarten Crown land and building and road reserve will transfer to the Department of Education. As such, ongoing maintenance will be the responsibility of the Department of Education.

Community consultation

The project encompasses a multi-faceted approach to address ongoing traffic safety concerns around our local schools so it’s important that community involvement is central to our approach. We encourage you to have your say once the survey opens.

Once public consultation has ended, the Town will review submissions and prepare a final report to Council. The Town will then forward that recommendation to the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage.

Once public consultation has ended, the Town will review submissions received and prepare a final report to Council. The Town will then forward that recommendation to the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage.

We recognise the significance of transparent communication and will strive to keep the community updated of developments at every stage of the project. Further information will be shared at the end of this month as we move forward in advocating for a safer and more inclusive Mosman Park.
