Council has green-lighted a three-year lease to Perth International Jazz Festival who will deliver a range of programs and activities including jazz, music and theatre performances.
Council at their August Ordinary Council Meeting last night voted in favour of Perth International Jazz Festival’s (PIJF) application to lease the historic building as their headquarters.
The contract will stipulate conditions including PIJF taking on the role as main tenant, promoting and supporting Mosman Park’s arts scene, maintaining Memorial Hall, and negotiating use with the existing sub-tenants.
Mayor Paul Shaw believes PIJF will revitalise Mosman Park in alignment with the Town’s Strategic Community Plan by continuing the legacy of MosArts and throw their full support behind the local arts and culture scene.
“PIJF shares our vision for community-focused events and programs in Mosman Park through not only the excitement of jazz music but amplifying the sounds and talent of local and world-class acts,” says Mayor Shaw.
“They have also expressed a commitment to preserving the historic and iconic building, while considering the amenity of the nearby residents. This has been a determining factor in Council’s decision-making.”
Community consultation was run by the Town earlier this year on the future use of Memorial Hall, with music, arts and culture a common theme among the 358 responses. Over 95% of those surveyed showed full support for Mosman Park’s arts and culture scene.
Various parties expressed interest in utilising Memorial Hall to deliver programs and services for the Mosman Park community. Stakeholder consultation was then held extensively based on the submitted proposals during the first half of 2023.
Memorial Hall has been an iconic home for Mosman Park’s vibrant arts and culture program for over two decades.
