Residents Dig Into Sustainability at 2025 Native Verge Workshop

Last Saturday, the Town of Mosman Park proudly hosted the 2025 Native Verge Workshop at Alf Adams Pavilion, with a fantastic turnout of 22 enthusiastic residents.

The workshop provided an opportunity for community members to connect, learn, and explore ways to transform their street verges into thriving native gardens. Attendees came ready with thoughtful questions and a genuine interest in enhancing their verges using sustainable, waterwise practices.

Key topics of discussion included:

  • Suitable native plant species for verge gardens
  • Techniques for planting around existing street trees—a common and sometimes contentious challenge
  • Where to access free mulch (the West Metro Recycling Centre offers free mulch for residents—just bring your own shovel and trailer)
  • Tips for establishing more delicate or finicky native species

In line with the Town’s sustainability goals, the event was proudly zero waste. Coffee was provided by the popular Sunny Bean Coffee Bike, with many attendees bringing their own keep cups. Ceramic mugs were also supplied, helping to eliminate single-use waste.

Participants were also encouraged to recycle their plastic plant pots at the West Metro Recycling Centre, extending the positive environmental impact of the event.

Workshops like these help foster knowledge-sharing, strengthen community connections, and support practical local action for a more sustainable future.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such a successful and inspiring morning – and to Sunny Bean Coffee Bike for keeping everyone caffeinated!
