Mosman Park households will soon be ‘Good to FOGO’ with the commencement of the three-bin food organics and garden organics (FOGO) service on 14 August.
Nearly 3,000 single-unit dwelling homes will be the first to access the new service, with each household receiving a kitchen caddy and bin liners. Apartments and multi-unit dwellings will make the transition from early 2024.
Mayor Paul Shaw said the commencement of FOGO will help the Town meet its target of increasing material recovery to 70% by 2025.
“We know FOGO can achieve the highest material recovery rates. This is just one of many big steps the Town of Mosman Park is taking in our sustainability journey to further our commitment to landfill diversion and waste reduction,” says Mayor Shaw.
“The commencement of FOGO in Mosman Park also aligns with key community-driven actions and aspirations from the Town’s Waste Plan, draft Sustainability Strategy, and Strategic Community Plan.”
Stefan Frodsham, CEO of the Western Metropolitan Regional Council (WMRC) has worked alongside the Town through the transition.
“We have seen really positive results with FOGO across Cottesloe and Subiaco,” said Mr Frodsham.
“We’re looking forward to Mosman Park residents embracing the FOGO system. This will both decrease the amount of waste sent to landfill and create quality compost.”
$49,400 State Government funding will get FOGO off the ground in Mosman Park through the $20 million Better Bins Plus: Go FOGO program.
The Town joins nine other Perth metropolitan councils to offer a FOGO service.
The State’s Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030 has a target to deliver a harmonised FOGO kerbside collection system in the Perth and Peel regions by 2025.
The Town will be supporting Mosman Park residents to seamlessly transition to FOGO through information sessions, social media and printed materials.
