The Town of Mosman Park will front the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) next week to express concerns about the Mos Lane development application proposed for the Wellington Village Neighbourhood Centre at 46 Manning Street.
Through two deputations, the Town’s Chief of Urban Planning and Development and Councillor Andrew Baird will strongly reaffirm Council’s opposition to the proposed development and advocate in the best interests of the Mosman Park community.
This follows notification on 3 August from the State Development Assessment Unit (SDAU) that the final determination on the Mos Lane development application will be considered by the WAPC on 10 August. The final decision rests with the WAPC.
Mayor Paul Shaw said Council voted against Mos Lane’s updated development proposal in August 2021, primarily because of a lack of significant community benefit and overdevelopment of a local neighbourhood centre.
The Town’s Urban Planners have noted concerns on the proposal relating to inappropriate use of discretion, inappropriate provision of community benefits, building height, traffic management, setbacks, plot ratio, landscaping and inappropriate transitioning proposed among surrounding low density R20 properties.
“A full re-assessment of the revised application has not been referred to the Town or re-advertised by the SDAU. Nevertheless, we don’t believe there’s been substantial changes to the revised plans that warrant changing Council’s position on this,” said Mayor Paul Shaw.
“While the Town has no control over the final decision, rest assured we will continue to do what we can to make sure that future development in Mosman Park delivers tangible benefits to our residents and ratepayers.”
The determination meeting is open to the public and will take place on Thursday 10 August at 140 William Street, Perth or via Zoom. More information regarding the assessment report and recommendation, including the meeting time and agenda, can be found on the SDAU website.
