Each year the Town runs a winter tree planting program, and commences early June. New trees are being planted across our streets and parks as part of the Town’s ongoing program to increase our urban forest with trees and low vegetation.
Our urban forest provides a number of important environmental, economic and social benefits to the community, including purifying the air and reducing noise, providing habitats for our local fauna, creating an aesthetically pleasing environment, and reducing heat generated from our roads. The Town works hard to preserve our existing urban forest and, wherever possible, choose to plant Australian natives.
Newly planted trees require watering for the first two summers. The Town provides deep watering to new trees once a week during the dry months. Residents are encouraged to assist in establishing street trees through additional watering.
The Town actively promotes the preservation and growth of our urban forest to maintain a healthy tree canopy n a changing climate. Our leafy suburb is beautiful and helps to enrich the lives of our community.
Healthy Trees, Healthy Town.
Town-Wide Tree Audit
Commenced in April 2026, the Town has engaged an independent qualified organisation to undertake a Town wide tree audit for its approximately 10,000 trees. The audit involves the assessment of all trees owned and managed by the Town, rated against a set criteria, and covers three areas: street trees located within the Town’s Road reserve; trees located in parks and reserves; and trees located within natural areas of the Town.
Please note no further tree planting requests can be accommodated within the Town’s Winter Tree Planting Season 2026. Parks and Environment are taking tree planting requests for Tree Planting Season 2027.
