The Town of Mosman Park is planning for the next 10-15 years – and we want the community to be at the heart of that journey. Our draft Local Planning Strategy sets the direction for how land use and development can evolve across the Town, while preserving the lifestyle, natural beauty and community spirit that makes Mosman Park so unique. This draft Strategy is not just a technical document – it’s a shared vision for the future, shaped by local voices and guided by the aspirations in our Strategic Community Plan 2021–2031. It recognises that as we grow and change, we must balance community values with good planning practice and State planning requirements.
A Vision for the next 10-15 Years
The draft Local Planning Strategy outlines a long-term vision for how Mosman Park can thrive – socially, environmentally, and economically – while staying true to its character.
At its core, the vision is about:
- Greener, tree-lined streets and natural open spaces
- Vibrant local centres that feel welcoming and alive
- Development that fits the place – sustainable, well-designed, and respectful of heritage
- Celebrating and protecting our unique natural setting – from river to sea
The draft Strategy has been shaped around four key themes that directly support our broader community goals to Connect, Sustain and Thrive.
Grounded in community, guided by policy
This draft Strategy reflects feedback from residents, local businesses, and community groups, gathered through a range of engagement activities. We’ve listened closely to your priorities – whether that’s maintaining green spaces, improving local access to services, or ensuring new development fits the scale and feel of our neighbourhoods.
While the draft Strategy is driven by local aspirations, it also responds to broader State and regional planning policies – helping to ensure we meet future housing, infrastructure and sustainability needs in ways that are right for Mosman Park.
How the Strategy is structured
The draft Local Planning Strategy is presented in two parts:
- PART 1 – Local Planning Strategy:
Outlines the vision, planning principles, strategic directions and key actions to guide future planning decisions. - PART 2 – background and analysis:
Provides supporting information, including the outcomes of community engagement, an analysis of planning opportunities and challenges, and how State planning policies can be applied at the local level.
Together, these parts form a clear and practical roadmap for the future.
Why it matters
This Strategy sets the foundation for future local planning policies, including updates to the Town’s local planning scheme. It will help us make the right decisions about where and how development occurs, how we protect our natural areas, and how we create places that people love to live, work and connect in.
