Fire Break Notice 2025/26

BUSH FIRES ACT 1954

Fire Break Notice 2025/26

Your safety and the safety of our community is our top priority. As we approach the fire season, we want to remind all owners and occupiers of land within the Town of Mosman Park of the important fire safety measures required under the Bush Fires Act 1954.

To help prevent the outbreak, spread, or extension of bushfires that may pose a threat to our town, you are required to undertake the following actions on or before 30 November 2025, or within 14 days of becoming an owner or occupier after that date:

Residential Land

  • Cut grass and remove flammable material on your property so it’s no taller than 50mm.
  • Maintain grass and flammable material at this height until 31 March 2026.

All Other Land

  • Create a firebreak that is clear of flammable material and no taller than 50mm.
  • Ensure the firebreak is at least three metres wide from your property boundary.
  • Trim trees within the firebreak to allow fire trucks access if needed.
  • If you are unable to complete these requirements due to practical reasons, contact the Town by 10 November 2025 to discuss alternative solutions. If an alternative is not approved, you must comply with the standard requirements.

Verge Maintenance

  • The Town relies on residents to help maintain nature strips. Keeping verges clear and well-maintained supports compliance with the Bush Fires Act.

Burning Restrictions

  • Burning garden refuse or lighting fires in the open air without a permit is prohibited.

Penalties

  • Failure to comply with this notice by the specified date may result in fines of up to $5,000. You may also be responsible for costs if the required work is not completed on time.

We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our community safe this fire season. For more information, visit our website here or contact Ranger Services on 08 9383 6600. Thank you for your commitment to the safety of Mosman Park.
