Town of Mosman Park councillors tonight rejected Mos Lane’s updated six-storey development proposal primarily because of the lack of significant community benefit and overdevelopment of a local neighbourhood centre.
Councillors voted against the proposal on the basis of a shortfall of 200 car bays, inappropriate scale and intensity and improper reliance on landscaping Town verges to deliver community benefit.
Town planning officers assessed the updated development application against all relevant legislative requirements of the Scheme, State and Local Planning Policies.
The technical assessment noted the proposal failed to achieve relevant aims of Town of Mosman Park Local Planning Strategy; noting concerns relating to height, setbacks, plot ratio, landscaping and appropriate transitioning among surrounding low density R20 properties.
“There are many merits with the proposal that align with the Town’s future aspirations, including revitalisting and breathing new life into current shopping centres,” Mayor Pollock said.
“However, the Town has a strong desire to protect and enhance character and amenity in the Wellington Village precinct. From a development perspective, community benefit also needs to be front of mind to future-proof Mosman Park.”
As the Town is not the determining body for this DA, the Council-endorsed recommendation will now be presented to the SDAU who will prepare their assessment to the Western Australian Planning Commission for final determination.
