Rat plagues are never any fun, so it’s important that all residents take necessary measures to ensure that rodent populations are kept to a manageable level at home.
Here at the Town, we are committed to doing the same in our public open spaces, as we’re especially mindful of animals caught in the crossfire. The poisons used to kill rodents work by preventing blood from clotting and are called anticoagulant.
The Town therefore uses first generation rodenticides only and is encouraging all households and local businesses to do the same.
We don’t encourage or support the use of second generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs) that use the following: brodifacoum, bromadiolone, difethialone, difenacoum or flocoumafen. This is because SGARs persist longer and have more opportunity to poison owls, frogmouths and native reptiles like snakes and goannas.
Instead, we highly encourage residents and businesses use those with one of the following active poison ingredients: sodium chloride, warfarin, coumatetatryl, or diphacinone.
