Town of Mosman Park to meet with DPIRD regarding Shark Hazard Mitigation Program

The Town of Mosman Park is saddened by the news of the shark incident in the Swan River on 4 February 2023 that resulted in the tragic loss of Stella Berry.

The Town welcomes recent news from the State Government that its Shark Hazard Mitigation Program (SHMP) can assist Local Government Authorities with funding environmentally safe swimming enclosures in the Swan River. The Town understands the subsequent operational and maintenance costs are borne by LGAs.

Before the Town can make an informed decision to adopt any shark mitigation measures, the Town intends to meet with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) for a briefing on their incident response protocol and on the particulars of the SHMP funded by the McGowan Government.

In the meantime, the Town will continue to work in partnership with neighbouring and State authorities and we urge beachgoers to be cautious of shark activity in the area.
