Food Organics Garden Organics in Mosman Park

Mosman Park has moved to a three-bin FOGO system for all standalone dwellings, and is currently transitioning to a FOGO system for unit complexes. 

There has been updated guidance on FOGO from August 2026. 

  • The updated guidance has been developed collaboratively by the State Government, local governments and industry.  
  • The aim is to make it easier for households to know what belongs in the FOGO bin.  
  • Some items that were previously accepted should now go into the red general waste bin.  

Updated guidance – what goes into your FOGO Bin:

  • Food scraps (fruit, vegetables, meat, bones, dairy)
  • Garden waste (grass clippings, small branches, weeds)
  • Certified compostable caddy liners with the AS 4736 seedling logo

What is FOGO?

FOGO stands for Food Organics Garden Organics.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Residents should place their food scraps (including: bread, dairy, fruit, vegetables, meat, bones and seafood) and garden waste (prunings and leaves) into their 240L lime-green lidded FOGO bin. The introduction of FOGO bins has improved the Town’s resource recovery by diverting organic waste to be processed into high-quality compost. The compost returns valuable organic matter and nutrients to the soil, supporting a circular economy by keeping biological resources in productive use.

You can purchase bags of FOGO-derived compost at the West Metro Recycling Centre. This product is certified to Australian Standard AS 4454 and contains about 20-25% FOGO material. The rest is comprised of natural minerals and green and agricultural waste to make a rich dig-in product for your garden.

When did FOGO start?

FOGO bin collections in the Town of Mosman Park, commenced on 14 August 2023 in line with the State Government’s Waste Strategy

Apartment complexes and multi-unit dwellings began transitioning to FOGO in 2026.

As part of the Town’s Compassionate Waste Service, eligible households may apply for a fee-waived additional general waste bin where there is a demonstrated genuine need. This service is available for households with more than six residents, those with demonstrated medical needs, and, in some circumstances, on demonstrated compassionate grounds. Please contact the Town for more information or to submit an application.
