Weed Management

The Town of Mosman Park is committed to managing weeds in a way that is safe, responsible and environmentally sustainable. By keeping weeds under control, we protect our public spaces, reduce fire risks, protect infrastructure, and support healthy biodiversity across our parks, verges and bushland.

Weeds may look harmless, but they can:

  • Damage kerbing, paths and roads
  • Create trip hazards
  • Increase fire risk in bushland
  • Smother native plants and reduce biodiversity
  • Impact the health of turf, trees and garden beds

How the Town control weeds

The Town uses a combination of methods to keep weeds under control:

  • Manual removal and mechanical methods
  • Mulching and planting groundcovers that suppress weeds
  • Turf care programs including mowing, watering and fertilising
  • Targeted herbicide use where needed

Herbicides are always used carefully, in line with State regulations, and applied only by trained and licensed operators. Signs are displayed when spraying is in progress, and areas are safe to use again once the turf has dried and the signs are removed.

Bushland care

Weeds are a major threat to bushland. To protect local biodiversity, the Town combines hand removal and targeted herbicide use to give native vegetation the best chance to thrive, supporting the unique plants and animals that make Mosman Park special.

Verge exemptions – how you can opt out

Residents can choose not to have herbicides applied to the verge outside their property. If you request an exemption, you’ll need to manage weeds on your verge to the same standard as the Town’s program.
